Lorem Ipsum

Lorem ipsum is the scrambled fake Latin designers pour into layouts when they need text-shaped material without asking anyone to read it.

It fills a headline, paragraph, or card with believable word lengths, so people can judge spacing and hierarchy without getting pulled into a copy review. Lorem ipsum makes the words visually present and intellectually absent.

That absence is both the trick and the danger. Real copy has short labels, long names, awkward numbers, and sentences that refuse to fit the ideal box. A layout tested only with smooth filler can collapse the moment actual language arrives.

You'll hear ipsum, dummy text, filler text, and greeking. Placeholder text is different: it is the hint inside a form field and disappears when you type. Lorem ipsum occupies a layout while the real content is missing.

Use filler to explore a layout, not to approve one. Before shipping, replace it with the longest, shortest, and strangest real examples you can find. A design that works only with meaningless text has not met its content yet.
